Retired General Colin Powell, through his spokeswoman, is shooting down stories from Fox News and Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, about his possible endorsement of Barack Obama.

General Colin Powell’s spokeswoman, Peggy Cifrino, confirms both Senator McCain and Senator Obama have been in touch and even seen General Powell.  She says, “He is studying their positions and statements and has not decided who he will vote for”.

General Powell is currently on vacation in the Washington, D.C. area.  Cifrino confirms, “He plans to do a bit of traveling later this month.”   Political rallies are not on his travel itinerary.  Cifrino says, “He is not going to either the Democratic or the Republican conventions.”   In the fall, Powell is expected to pick up again with his non profit activities and lectures.

When asked about the uniqueness of each candidate, Cifrino said, “Powell believes both men are strong candidates.”

The story about the possible Obama endorsement surfaced after Bill Kristol made the revelation on Fox News.

General Powell, the former Secretary of State under George W. Bush, was a dissenting voice to the Iraq War. Reports are circulating that Powell is not supporting a Republican for President this go round.    Republican candidate, John McCain supports continued efforts with the war in Iraq.  Democratic candidate, Barack Obama wants to bring the troops home.

Should Colin Powell endorse anyone?  Would he help or hinder a candidate?
