Members of the U.S. Conference of Mayors met with White House staffers. The issue, the hoped for February 16, 2009 deadline for passage of the stimulus package. The House passed a plan, working with President Obama, which will:
o Create and save 3 to 4 million jobs, rebuilding America, making us more globally competitive and energy independent, and transforming our economy for long-term growth. More than 90% of the jobs will be in the private sector.
o Give 95% of working Americans an immediate tax cut.
o Invest more than $100 billion in roads, bridges, mass transit, flood control, and clean water projects.
o Invest quickly into the economy to get it moving again-75% will payout in the first 18 months.
