The Obama Administration has given the National Black Farmer Association a glimmer of hope. The reason, a 60 day extension on the deadline for congress to act on approving 1.25 billion dollars for the black farmers settlement against the USDA. 15 years ago, the 90 thousand black farmers won a discrimination lawsuit with claims against the Agriculture Department’s Farm Loan Program.

 

 

John Boyd head of the National Farmer’s Association is requesting the President come to the table in efforts to push congress to approve the billion dollar settlement the president placed in the 2011 budget. Boyd says if President Obama would get involved with the farmers settlement like he did with Health Care Reform, the monies would be approved before the newly imposed May 31st deadline.
