The July 013 unemployment rate is 7.4 percent, new Labor Secretary Tom Perez believes “we are seeing slow and steady healing in the economy but we must do more to pick up the pace.” There was a 1.1% drop in the black unemployment rate. Perez comments on the drop from 13.7% to 12.6% saying it is “still stubbornly high.” The Labor Department stats show has the Black jobless numbers for July 2012 were 14.1 %. Perez feels the numbers are “moving in the right direction.”
As the July unemployment numbers were released the Labor Secretary tweeted, “We’ve had 41 straight months of private sector job growth w/ a total of 7.3 million new private-sector jobs added.” LISTEN:
Meanwhile, Roderick Harrison of the Joint Center for political and economic studies finds over 3.2 million Americans have been out of work over a year with almost 500 thousand Hispanics and almost 760 thousand blacks comprising that number.
