Over the weekend and in advance of December 23, 2014, President Obama enrolled in the health care marketplace selecting the Bronze plan made available by the Affordable Care Act on the DC marketplace. The Obama Administration contends the President is one of the 85 percent of Americans who gets his health insurance through his employer and, like previous Presidents receives health care from the United States Military.
The act of the President signing up for insurance coverage through the DC exchange is symbolic since the President’s health care will continue to be provided by the military. Sources say President Obama was pleased to participate in a plan as a show of support for these marketplaces which are providing what the White House calls quality, affordable health care options to more than a million people.
Senior Advisor to President Obama, Valerie Jarrett earlier in the morning during an interview with April Ryan said the President would be signed up for insurance by the end of the day before she was made aware of his staff’s work this weekend to enroll the President. The hope by the Administration was to have him enrolled by the end of today, December 23rd, 2013.
