Obama to Meet with U.S. Conference of Mayors

President Obama meets with the U.S. Conference of Mayors Thursday evening as the group hosts its 82nd Winter meeting in the Washington, D.C.

The organization is made up of Mayors from cities with populations exceeding 30,000. The group just released its Metro Economies Report. Rawlings Blake says the Report finding, “Cities are where it’s at!” The Report concludes 90% of the countries Gross Domestic Product comes from the “Metro areas.”

The Mayor’s Second Vice President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Mayor of Baltimore, Maryland says, “what we want to impart to the president is how important it is to work across the aisle to get things done for our cities.”

The organization is made up of Mayors from cities with populations exceeding 30,000. The group just released its Metro Economies Report. Rawlings Blake says the report finding, “Cities are where it’s at!” The Report concludes 90% of the countries Gross Domestic Product comes from cities.

But, the Mayors are going to the White House with a list of agenda items. Mayor Rawlings-Blake says there are needs for “infrastructure money to put people to work.” She also says public safety and gun violence will be discussed with the President as the U.S. Conference of Mayors is a “vocal advocate against irresponsible gun ownership.”

The group goes to the White House Thursday evening for a reception hosted by President Barack Obama. Vice President Biden is slated to attend as well.
