Terror Concerns is Not All Kenya is Dealing with: Kenya: Floods Should Never Again Hold Nairobi Hostage: Quote of The Day: ”If the misery of the poor be caused not by the laws of nature, but by our institutions, great is our sin.” More than 28 people have died in two days of flash floods in Nairobi. Scores have been made homeless and property have been estimated in the tens of millions of shillings has been destroyed by floodwaters…..Residents have collectively wasted thousands of hours in horrifying traffic jams. And because misery loves company, waterborne diseases such as cholera, of which there is already an outbreak, are likely to spread….This is unacceptable, especially because the flooding is a man-made rather than a natural disaster and was a long time coming prefaced by a drought. Residents should stop choking the existing drainage system with liter….In the long term, the state and the counties must eradicate corruption in land use and development. Building on Riparian Land and Road Reserves, and Unplanned Structures must be demolished…..The floods have exposed the Quacks in charge of the Capital’s Emergency Response Services and Equipment. The City has virtually No Fire, Flood, and Other Crisis Equipment or Trained Personnel, thanks largely to Recruitment and Procurement Corruption.
